Privileged people
Why can’t you/we just accept that people you/we oppress know better what you/we do to oppress them and shut up about it? Here are some tips:
- Listen quietly and don’t give in to the temptation to share your Super Important Butthurt Opinions and/or exclaiming I’m Not One Of The Bad Guys. Listen until you actually know what’s going on.
- Keep listening because you still probably don’t know.
- You’re not the supreme ruler of humor and you don’t get to decide what people are allowed to get pissed off about. We all make mistakes but if you hurt people, you apologize and stop doing it.
- Remember that being privileged and having people distrust you for it is not as bad as not being privileged and what the underprivileged have gone through today and historically.
- (This should go without saying but people keep forgetting) Being underprivileged in one area doesn’t mean you understand everyone else’s hardships or that you’re not privileged in some other area; think about this before you speak.
- Call people out on bs by all means, but don’t think you’ve got all the answers or can speak for other people, esp not people who’s struggle you don’t share.
These are very basic but I see so many people forgetting this shit so…
Also if I’m completely wrong here, let me know!
